Cavan Man Could Face Jail Over Brother's Cannabis Stash
A Cavan man described as "non-confrontational" has been remanded on continuing bail over the seizure of cannabis resin valued over €1m last year.
Thomas Keogh, 36, of Corrakeeran, Lisboduff, Cootehill was told by his brother to "mind your own business" when he asked about the cache being held in the apartment they shared.
Counsel for the defence submitted his client was "a simple man who is just not confrontational" and he appealed to Judge Patricia Ryan not to impose a custodial sentence but to consider community service.
His brother, George aged 28, of the same Cavan address, has already been remanded in custody for sentence in October in relation to the drugs which were valued at €1,088,500.
Thomas pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of the cannabis resin at Clontarf Bay Apartments for sale or supply on January 12, 2007.
A Garda represetative told prosecuting counsel, Mr Garret Baker BL, that the cannabis was found in the course of a search carried out as a result of a confidential tip off.

Cannabis worth an estimated €100,000 has been uncovered in a wooded area in Co Cavan. Gardaí confirmed they made the discovery on Tuesday at Drumgill. No one has been arrested in connection with the find, gardaí have said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Cannabis with an estimated value of €400,000 has been seized in Co Donegal. Members of the Revenue and Gardaí uncovered the drugs during a search at Castlefin on Tuesday. Garda arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the find.

Up to €5.3 million worth of drugs have been seized following a search operation in Co Meath. As part of a planned operation by Gardaí from Meath Divisional Drugs Unit, officers carried out the search at a property in Clinstown, Stamullen at 2.45pm on Thursday, 29 June.
