Drowned Ibiza Holidaymaker Named

Officials have today named a young Irish man who drowned while holidaying in Ibiza.

Dubliner Brian Francis Farrelly died in his hotel swimming pool in San Antonio on Sunday morning.

It is understood the 20-year-old got into difficulty shortly after jumping into the pool.

Mr Farrelly had only arrived at the Spanish holiday resort on Saturday.

Fellow guests at the Hotel Brisa are said to have raised the alarm, which resulted in local police and paramedics attending the incident.

Mr Farrelly was pulled from the water, but pronounced dead at the scene.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it was offering consular assistance to Mr Farrelly's family.

Mr Farrelly is the second Irish tourist to die this year in a Spanish swimming pool.

Keith Murphy, also 20 and also from Dublin, died in May after jumping in his hotel pool.

Mr Murphy was celebrating the first night of his holiday with friends in the Lanzarote resort of Puerto del Carmen.

Four people, including Mr Farrelly, have drowned already this year in Ibiza.

Three of the four deaths have occurred in the past week.
