Children Affected By Vapour Leak At University Swimming Pool

Six children are being kept under observation in hospital following a chemical vapour incident at a university swimming pool in Co Kildare.

According to reports 25 children were using the swimming pool at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth at around 10.30am.

It is understood that during routine maintenance vapour from a plant room escaped into the air conditioning system, which then began to leak into the pool area.

A doctor and nurse from the university treated the children on site but it thought that no-one was seriously injured.

Six children were transferred by ambulance to hospital and the incident is being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority.
