Pitbull Terrorize Garda

A member of the garda is being treated in hospital following a vicious attack by to pitbull terriers during a house search last week.

The garda, who is in his forties received over 100 stitches to treat the severe wounds to his leg.

Three of the seven people at the house on Dominic Road in Galway at the time were arrested in connection with the discovery of €4,000 worth of Heroin.

A further four males and one female were later arrested in connection with the find.

Gardaí returned to the home on Friday, accompanied by the local dog warden. During their return a second member of the garda was attacked by one of the dogs, he received superficial injuries. Both pitbulls were removed and later put down.

Another two men were arrested in the city late on Saturday afternoon and held at Galway garda station.

All seven have since been released and all are being charged under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to those detained.

Garda Attacked By Five PitBull Terriers
A garda officer has undergone surgery after five pitbull terriers attacked him outside a house in Ballymacarbry, on Monday night. An investigation was launched last night into the incident which left 50-year-old Donal Foley, a former Tipperary footballer, with wounds to his hands, legs and lower body.

Man Held Over McCarthy Murder
A man has been held overnight for questioning at Ennis garda station in Co Clare in connection with the murder of Deirdre McCarthy. Ms McCarthy, 43, from Turlough House, Ballyvaughan, was found dead on Fanore Strand last Thursday. She was buried yesterday.

Two Arrested In Connection With Ciaran O'Connell Murder
