Woman Held Over Serious Assault In Limerick
A woman in her late 40s has been arrested by Gardai in Limerick following a serious assault on a man in the city last week.
The woman is being questioned about the attack on a 41-year-old man at Convent Street last Wednesday night.
The victim was discovered unconscious with head wounds and rushed to the Midwestern Regional Hospital before being transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
On Wednesday, figures released by the Central Statistics Office revealed the level of assaults causing harm in the first quarter of the year has risen by almost 400 per year since 2006.
The statistics show almost 12,000 assaults are expected to be committed this year in Ireland.

A bomb-blasted former soldier has appeared in court in Belfast charged with rape and false imprisonment. Gerald Verner, 23, of Forthriver Park, who was deafened by a bomb in Afghanistan, is also accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm, sexual assault and threats to kill against the same woman.
