Suspected 'Viper' Shooter Arrested

Gardaí in Crumlin have arrested a man in relation to the shooting of Martin ‘Viper’ Foley in Dublin.

Garda made the arrest in Ballyfermot at approximately 7am. The male, in his 20s, is presently being held in Crumlin Garda station.

The infamous shooting took place in Lower Kimmage Road in Dublin in late January, Martin Foley was gunned down in broad daylight as he sat in his car on the Lower Kimmage road in Dublin.

After spotting the gunman, the 55-year-old got out and ran but was shot six times, in the shoulder, finger, chest and lower body. Another bullet also grazed his skull. Doctors believed Foley’s exceptional fitness kept him alive.

It's the fourth time Foley has been the victim of attempted assassination attempts. Previously these were in 1995 outside Fatima Mansions, in 1996 - by the convicted murderer Brian Meehan - and in 2000 as he left Terenure swimming pool.

It was believed the latest shooting was linked to a feud between two Crumlin/Drimnagh based criminal gangs, one of which Foley is aligned to.

In total, Foley has survived being hit with over 14 bullets since 1995.
