Contraband Cigarettes Seized In Cork

Customs officers in Cork have seized 60,000 contraband cigarettes following an ongoing national investigation.

Garda tip offs led them to focus on a Cambodian-registered freighter that docked in the city on Thursday.

Forty-thousand cigarettes were found when the Defender vessel was searched at Cork Port early on Thursday morning.

The haul led gardaí inquiries to another 20,000 find in a follow-up operation in Blackpool.

Nobody has yet been arrested, but a file is being prepared for the DPP in connection with the seizure.
