U2 Sign 12 Year Deal

The 'biggest band in the world' have signed one of the biggest contracts in their careers with promoters Live Nation.

The 12-year deal will mean Live Nation will handle all the band’s merchandising, digital and branding rights.

U2 will however continue releasing records under the Universal Music label.

Although financial details have not been released, Madonna’s 10 year deal with Live Nation was worth $120 million over 10 years.

The Chairman of Live Nation, Michael Cohl, said: "U2 has created some of the greatest rock music of all time. It has long been our intention to consolidate and extend our relationship."

Speaking about the deal, singer Bono said: "We've been dating for over 20 years now. It's about time we tied the knot."

The news of the lucrative deal comes on the back of the bands equally lucrative venture into 3D film, with the release of U23D throughout the world. The ambitious venture has recently opened in Argentina and Hungary, with the Phillippines, Portugal and Poland set to host the film from next week.

The feature is a concert film released in 2008, the first live-action movie to be shot, produced, and screened exclusively with digital 3-D technology.

The film is composed of footage from several shows from U2's Vertigo Tour in 2006. It is the band's second theatrically released movie, after 1988's Rattle and Hum.
