Gangland-Style Drive-By Shooting In Limerick

Five houses in Limerick received a volley of machine gun fire in drive-by style gun attack.

Garda are investigating the incident in which up to 15 shots were fired from a taxi in St Ita’s Street in the city.

Although many residents, some being families with young children, were at home at the time no one was hurt in the shooting; however, some of the houses were badly damaged.

Garda believe the attack is connected to an ongoing gang feud in the area, and some of the families involved in the feud were targeted.

Garda patrols in the area have now been stepped up because of the tension and fear caused by the attack.

The taxi used in the attack was stolen on St Patrick’s Day in the Caherdavin area of the city.

The stolen taxi was later recovered on the outskirts of the city and has been sent for technical examination.

A sergeant at Henry Street garda station described it as a new departure for crime in Limerick city.
