Psychiatrist Critical As Stab Attack Man In Court

A 31-year-old man has appeared before Limerick District Court on Friday morning, charged in connection with the stabbing of two doctors at a psychiatric hospital in the city on Thursday.

Anthony McMahon, of Raheen Square, Ballinacurra in Weston, was charged with two counts of assault causing harm to Dr Anamath Pullela and Dr Kathleen Burns.

The two doctors were attacked at St Anne's Psychiatric Day Hospital around 3pm on Thursday.

Dr Pullela, a psychiatrist, suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack and is being treated at Cork University Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Dr Burns, a clinical psychologist, was also treated for multiple stab wounds at Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, where her condition is reported to be comfortable.

No bail application was made and the accused was remanded in custody for a week to appear before the court again on January 24.

A man has appeared in court charged with the death of Gerard Delaney on St Stephen's Day in 2011. 19-year-old Dean Crinnion of Blackwater Grove, Togher in Cork, was also charged with affray and with producing a knife during a fight. Gardaí Investigate Cork City Stabbing
Gardaí in Cork have appealed for information after a 41-year-old man was stabbed in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, is understood to have been found on Baker's Road in Gurranebrahter at around 2am.

Investigation Launched After Man Dies In Dublin Shooting
Gardaí in Dublin have appealed for information following the death of a 46-year-old man in a shooting on Thursday night. The incident happened at around 22:30 at Abbeywood Court in Lucan. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. A post mortem examination is due to be carried out today.
