Runaway-Ram Driver Jailed

A get-away tactic involving deliberately driving into a patrol car in a bid to stop pursuing Gardai has resulted in the car driver being jailed for three years.

Twenty-year-old Karl O'Rourke, of Kippure Park, Finglas, Dublin, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a stolen Mitsubishi Space Wagon and dangerous driving at Fortlawn Avenue, Blanchardstown, on May 29th 2006.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard the man had taken a "cocktail of drink and drugs" when he was involved in the high-speed chase.

Fraud Offences Sees Largest Increase In Recorded Crime
Fraud offences saw the biggest increase in the year to June 2019, according to the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) Recorded Crime report. According to the report, the number of fraud offences recorded by An Garda Síochána rose by 34.4%; from 5,405 to 7,265 recorded incidents. The report also show that drug offences increased by 16.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána have launched a new safety campaign aimed at cyclists and HGV drivers to highlight the issue of 'blind spots'. Launched today, the campaign targeting cyclists and truck drivers aims to highlight the existence of the 'Blind Spots' around trucks.

A new road safety initiative for tourists has been launched in an effort to reduce the number of accidents involving visitors. Since 2009, some 56 tourists have been killed or seriously injured on Irish roads.

Youth Hurling Match Abandoned After Violence
An under-16s hurling match was allegedly attacked by a man with a slash hook, the Irish Independent has reported. A garda investigation has been launched into the alleged incident, at St Patrick's in the Rhebogue area, in which a settled Traveller threatened players and coaches.
