Youth Hurling Match Abandoned After Violence

An under-16s hurling match was allegedly attacked by a man with a slash hook, the Irish Independent has reported.

A garda investigation has been launched into the alleged incident, at St Patrick's in the Rhebogue area, in which a settled Traveller threatened players and coaches.

It is understood that the incident started moments before the game was due to begin, initially involving one man, thought to be in his late teens, but escalating to include associates of the Traveller.

Following threats, the game was abandoned for safety reasons and garda informed.

An investigation is underway.
