Garda Shot In Dublin

President Mary McAleese has publicly condemned the shooting of a Garda in Dublin this morning.

The shooting occurred shortly after 9am on the Ossary Road in Dublin's financial district.

The officer, who is understood to be a motorcyclist with the regional traffic unit, was taken to Mater Hospital, where his condition has been described as stable.

The garda was shot in the stomach after he stopped a car.

It is understood the car was stolen but was later abandoned and recovered on the St Barnabas Road.

The area remains sealed off while Gardai investigate the incident. Anyone with any information is urged to contact Gardai.

PSNI Investigating Fatal Collision Near Bready, Co Tyrone
An investigation has been launched following a fatal road traffic collision near Bready, Co Tyrone. At around 1.40pm on Sunday, 07 April, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Victoria Road. Arrested Over Kilrush Body Find
A man has been detained in connection with the discovery of a body in Co Clare. The body of the 27-year-old was found outside a house in Kilrush this morning. The victim was found shot dead in the garden of a house on O'Gorman Street at around 10.30am.

Shot Garda Remains In Stable Condition
The Garda shot in Dublin yesterday morning remains in a stable condition in hospital. 34-year-old Paul Sherlock, was shot in the stomach after he stopped a stolen car shortly after 9am on Ossary Road in Dublin's financial district. Mr Sherlock, a motorcyclist with the regional traffic unit, was taken to Mater Hospital.

Second Arrest Made In Alan O'Neill Murder Investigation
Garda investigating the murder of Alan O'Neill in Tallaght in May this year have arrested a second man. A 21-year-old man was arrested in West Dublin on Tuesday evening and is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station. It follows the arrest of a 23-year-old man in the Midlands area on Tuesday morning.
