Three Arrested Over Longford Murder

Gardaí in Co Longford have arrested three people in connection with the death of 37-year-old Sharon Coughlan.

A 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested shortly after 11am this morning.

A further arrest was made when Gardaí detained a 19-year-old man in the Longford area around 1pm this afternoon.

The body of Mrs Coughlan was found in a vacant house in Longford, understood to be just a few doors from her own home, on Saturday night.

She was found strangled in a downstairs bathroom, which had been locked from the outside.

All three are being detained at Longford Garda Station for questioning.

Three Injured And Three Arrested In Longford Car Chase
Three people required hospital treatment following a high-speed car chase in Longford on Saturday night. Gardai said a patrol car was carrying out a routine circuit of the town when it tried to stop a car. However, the car sped off at speed and gardai gave chase. The chase ended when the suspects car crashed at Goshen cross outside Longford.

Status Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued Across 11 Counties
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning for rain across 11 counties. The warning, which came into effect at 7am this morning, is in place for Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan. The warning will remain in place until 6am tomorrow, when it will be reviewed.

Shots Fired At House In Longford Town
A number of shots were fired at a house outside Longford town last night. Nobody was injured and minor damage was caused to the house on the Dublin Road. The attack happened just before midnight. It is believed the incident is the latest in a series of attacks, in connection with a feud between families and travellers in the area.

Man Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing In Longford
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Longford. The victim, believed to be in his early 30's, was discovered with chest wounds in the Great Water Street area at around 11.50am on Tuesday, 01 November. He was taken to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
