Family Sought In Limerick Skip Body Case

Gardaí investigating the case of a homeless man whose body was found in a skip in Limerick are trying to trace his family.

It is believed that the man, believed to be in his mid-thirties and homeless, is originally from the south of England and Gardaí are reported to be working with British police, using fingerprints and dental records, in order to establish the man's identity.

The body was found by workers at a waste recycling plant in Luddemore, around 13km from Limerick city, shortly after midday on Monday.

On Tuesday, the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy confirmed that the man's death was caused by severe crush injuries, which were caused accidentally by the skip being loaded onto a refuse collection truck.

It is believe that the man was sleeping rough in a large industrial wheeled bin, which was emptied into a compacting truck during a rubbish collection.

Gardaí said that they believed that the man had only arrived in Limerick in recent days, after previously spending some time in Cork.
