Dublin City Council Gears Up For Storm Austen
Dublin City Council is taking precautionary measures ahead of forecast heavy rainfall linked to Storm Austen, which is expected to affect the city from Thursday night, 22 October 2026, into Friday morning, 23 October 2026.
The Council's Flood Response Team is preparing for the potential impacts of intense rain across Dublin and has plans in place to act quickly if localised flooding occurs.
Crews are clearing fallen leaves and other debris where needed, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas where drainage gullies can become blocked during periods of heavy autumn rain. Council teams will be on duty overnight to monitor conditions and respond to any issues that arise.
Public advice:
- Avoid parking over drainage gullies so water can flow freely.
- Take extra care when travelling during heavy rainfall.
- Report urgent flooding incidents or hazards outside normal working hours.
Dublin City Council will continue to keep weather forecasts and on-the-ground conditions under review and will provide updates as required via its website and social media channels.
For assistance, contact the Council's emergency out-of-hours service on 01 222 2222.
