Man Arrested Following €360,000 Cannabis Seizure in Mayo

As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí have seized suspected illegal drugs valued at approximately €360,000 and arrested one man following a vehicle search in the Castlebar area of Co. Mayo on Monday 18th May 2026.

Gardaí from the Mayo Roscommon Longford Divisional Drugs Unit stopped and searched a car while on patrol during the evening of Monday 18th May 2026. Over the course of the search, officers discovered and confiscated 18 kg of suspected illegal cannabis.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene in connection with the seizure. He is currently being held under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda Station within the North Western Region.

The confiscated drugs will undergo further forensic analysis, and police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
