European Election Recount In Ireland South Underway

A full recount of European election ballots cast in Ireland South is underway.

Sinn Fein called for the recount after only 326 votes separated Liadh Ní Riada and Grace O'Sullivan, a Green Party candidate.

Gardaí have been providing 24-hour cover to ensure the ballot papers remain secure. They were stored at the Nemo Rangers GAA club in Cork after the recount was announced last Thursday.

It has been indicated that the count will finish by the weekend, however estimates last week said it could take up to six weeks.

All eight seats in Ireland's two other European constituencies have been filled.
