Counting Concludes In General Election

Ireland's 158 seats in the new Dáil have now been filled. It follows the conclusion of the final recount in the country's general election.

Labour's Willie Penrose was elected in Longford-Westmeath, meaning his party has secured speaking rights in the Dáil. However, no party secured enough seats in last Friday's vote to govern solely.

The largest party following the election is Fine Gael with 50 seats, and Fianna Fáil with 44.

The other seats in the Dáil were filled by Sinn Féin (23) and Labour (seven). The remaining 34 seats were taken by independents and smaller parties.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he will talk to all parties in a bid to form a new government. Currently, any new government needs the support of almost 80 elected members, or TDs.
