Man's Body Found Next To Burning Car On M1

An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man's body next to a burning car on the M1.

Shortly after 11pm on Tuesday night, 21 May, garda responded to reports of a car on fire at the side of the road at Rowan's Little, Walshtown, near Junction 5.

When they arrived at the scene, garda discovered the body of a man lying next to the vehicle. It is understood that the man had been shot a number of times.

The man's death is being treated as murder. His body has been taken to Mater Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Garda have reportedly identified the man and are investigating links to the Kinahan crime gang.

The scene of the discovery remains sealed for an ongoing forensic examination,

Garda have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed anything to come forward. In particular they want to speak to anyone who travelled along the M1 Dublin to Belfast motorway near Junction 5 at Walshestown last night around midnight and who may have seen anything suspicious.

A missing 24-year-old man has been found "safe and well". Alex Sherwin had been reported missing on Sunday, with garda issuing a public appeal for assistance. No information on Mr Sherwin's whereabouts have been released, but garda said the investigation had now ended. They thanked the public for their help.

Elderly Man Seriously Injured After Assault In Cork
An elderly man has been taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in an overnight attack in county Cork. The pensioner, a man in his 70s, received a punctured lung and other injuries when he was set upon in a car park in Sleaveen East in Macroom. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and taken to Bandon Garda Station.

Garda Injured In Cork
A garda has been injured while on duty in Cork on Monday night. The sergeant has been treated in hospital but has been discharged. He was bringing a patient, aged in his 20s, to the Mercy University Hospital just after 6pm. The garda is based at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
