Dublin Ranked Number One Large City Worldwide For Foreign Direct Investment

Dublin has been ranked the number one large city in the world for foreign direct investment (FDI), according to the Global Cities of the Future report.

It also retained its overall position of third in the FDI intelligence study which provides an industry insight into globalisation and foreign direct investment, and claimed second place globally in the 'Business Friendliness' category.

Commenting on the report, Chief Executive of Dublin City Council Owen Keegan said: "Today's results are a phenomenal achievement for Dublin, given our size and considering the competition we face on the global stage.

"International rankings are an important benchmark to rate Dublin's economic performance against that of our international peers, and we're delighted to see that, not only have we retained our overall third position globally, we've topped the category for our size and for economic potential.

"Our impressive performance as a city is a direct result of a supportive public policy environment created at both local and national level as well as multi-agency co-operation and collaboration across Government.

"The IDA have had incredible success attracting the next wave of FDI into Dublin with companies like MasterCard, AutoDesk and SoftBank, among many others, all announcing new or expanded investment in the city this year."

Competition Launched For LGBT Welcome Symbol

A national competition has been launched to find a welcome symbol to allow sports, arts, youth clubs and businesses to show solidarity with young LGBT+ people.

Children's Minister Katherine Zoppone announced the contest and called on young people up to the age of 24 to get creative and submit an original design.

Entries will be judged by a selection committee and services, clubs and people who work with young people will then be encouraged to display the winning design in support of those in the LGBT community.

A prize will also be awarded to the creator of the chosen design.

Minister Zappone commented: "To achieve the mission of the LGBTI+ National Youth Strategy, a number of goals, objectives and actions have been outlined to further enhance the lives of young people.

"The design of a public recognition marker is one of the actions under Goal 1 of the Strategy, which is to create a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for LGBTI+ young people.

"The realisation of this goal will see the continued improvement of safe, supportive and inclusive spaces across all walks of life so that young members of the LGBTI+ community feel widely supported.

"It will give them confidence to be themselves and actively participate in all aspects of society without fear of harassment and discrimination."

The deadline for submissions of art work is Monday 14th January 2019.
