Hospital Staff To Meet With Union Over Staff Shortage Proposals

Nursing staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda are to meet with SIPTU union representatives following discussions at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

A number of proposals have been put forward to end concerns over staff shortages at the hospital in Co Louth.

John McCamley, SIPTU Organiser, said staff members will meet with union representatives over the coming days to discuss the motions.

"An agreement to end this dispute must adequately deal with several issues," he said.

"These include reaching agreement on an emergency plan to deal with staff shortages at the hospital. Members are also seeking agreement on the recruitment and retention of staff, governance structures on the wards as well as the dependency on agency staff and overtime to fill vacancies.

"Following the period of consultation our members may then decide if they will ballot on the acceptance or rejection of these proposals."
