Nursing Staff To Stage Protest Over Staff Shortages
Nursing staff at Galway University Hospital's emergency department are to stage a demonstration over a lack of beds and staff shortages.
It follows a statement released on Tuesday by SIPTU calling for the lifting of an embargo on nursing staff and care assistants' recruitment.
The hospital has said that it is aware of the problems in the department, and said that it was working to "alleviate difficulties experienced by patients at the department."

FF Call For Minimum Sentences For Convictions For Assaulting Hospital Staff
Fianna Fáil have called for minimum sentences for anyone convicted of assaulting hospital staff and frontline emergency workers. Spokesperson on Health, Stephen Donnelly, made the call as the HSE confirmed that there were at least 1,000 assaults on hospital staff last year – a figure that the INMO says is just the tip of the iceberg.

Funding Secured For Co Mayo Nursing Homes
The government have announced funding of €15 million for nursing homes in Co Mayo, which Taoiseach Enda Kenny said will make a "significant difference for elderly people in our communities". Announcing the funding, the Taoiseach said: "Six Nursing Homes in Mayo are to receive a total of €15,070,000 in funding for upgrades and refurbishment.
