Cigarettes And Alcohol Seized In Co Kerry

Revenue Officers have seized cigarettes, alcohol and a car during an operation in Tralee, Co Kerry on Friday, 26 February.

Almost 22,000 cigarettes, branded 'L&M', 'MG' and '777', and 12 litres of wine were discovered when a car was stopped and searched as part of an ongoing operation into the sale and distribution of unstamped tobacco products in Co Kerry. The car was also seized as it had been used to transport the contraband.

A follow up search of a private residence uncovered more cigarettes. The combined value is in excess of €11,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €9,100.

A Croatian man in his 40's has been questioned in connection with the seizure. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

The seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing enforcement operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products.
