Almost 19,000 Cigarettes Seized At Rosslare Europort

Almost 19,000 illegal cigarettes have been seized by Revenue Officers at Rosslare Europort.

18,800 'Ken', 'Marlboro', 'Marlboro Gold' and 'Rothmans' branded cigarettes were uncovered hidden in a car that had disembarked a ferry from France.

The car was identified in routine profiling and the cigarettes were discovered concealed in the floor of the car.

A 27-year-old man was interviewed and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The value of the seized tobacco product is in excess of €9,900, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €8,600.

A revenue operation in Cork has resulted in over 65,000 unstamped cigarettes being taken out of circulation and €1,350 cash seized. The intelligence led operation was carried out in a residential part of the city on Thursday 15 August. A man was later questioned as a result.
