Five Arrested In Dissident Republican Investigation

Four men and one woman have been arrested as part of an operation targeting dissident republican activity in the Dublin region.

The arrests were made on Saturday, 08 August in an operation led by Special Detective Unit, Emergency Response Unit and Crime and Security Branch.

The five, aged between early 40s to late 60s, are being held under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939/1998 and are being held at a number of Garda stations in Dublin Region.

Three of those arrested have addresses in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The five arrested persons will appear at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court, (CCJ) at 5 p.m. today to be charged in relation to this investigation.

An Garda Siochana will continue to liaise closely with the Police Service of Northern Ireland in relation to this investigation.

Dissident Republican Accused To Appear In Court

Yesterday, Gardaí in Dublin announced they had made five arrests in connection with an investigation into dissident republicans in the capital.

Two Arrested Digging Up €1m In Cash
Two men have been arrested after being caught digging up more than €1 million in cash on the outskirts of Limerick. The men were found digging up the money in an area known as Portcrusha, Montpelier, Co. Limerick, on Sunday. It is believed that the money is the proceeds of crime.

Five More Arrested In Water Protest Investigation
A further five males have been arrested by garda investigating a water charge protest in Jobstown in November last year. Garda arrested three adults and two teenagers on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of people detained to seventeen.
