Five More Arrested In Water Protest Investigation

A further five males have been arrested by garda investigating a water charge protest in Jobstown in November last year.

Garda arrested three adults and two teenagers on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of people detained to seventeen.

Tánaiste Joan Burton was trapped inside her car for more than two hours during the protest on 15 November.

Gardaí investigating an anti-water charge protest in Jobstown last November have made further arrests. Four men were arrested on Wednesday morning. It follows the arrest of four others on Tuesday in connection with the protest, which saw the Tánaiste Joan Burton trapped in her car for more than two hours.

Five Arrested Following Dublin Protest
Gardai arrested five people following a protest outside the Department of Justice building in Dublin. The five were arrested for public order offences. They were charged at Pearse Street Garda Station and released. All five are due to appear in court on 23 April.

Customs Seize 120,000 Illegal Cigarettes
Cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €57,000 have been seized by customs officers at Cork Airport. Some 120,000 Marlboro cigarettes were discovered in 12 suitcases that had arrived on a flight from Wroclaw, Poland. Garda arrested two men, understood to be Polish nationals, in connection with the find.
