Five People Rescued After Yacht Runs Aground On Tipperary Shore

Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat rescued five people from a yacht that had run aground off the Tipperary shore.

Valentia Coast Guard requested the lifeboat at about 13:30 on Thursday, however, following a search Lough Derg RNLI reported that it could not locate the 49ft yacht in Castletown Harbour or nearby Dromane Harbour.

The lifeboat was asked to search further south, finding the stricken vessel at Parkers Point on the Tipperary Shore.

The yacht had suffered engine failure, it was later towed to Garrykennedy Harbour.

Five people were taken off the yacht. There were no reports of any injuries.

Lough Derg RNLI Deputy Launching Authority, Peter Kennedy praised the lifeboat volunteers: "They dealt with the challenge very efficiently, considering the size of the boat, and given its total loss of power and steering."
