Retained Firefighters 'Overwhelmingly' Support Industrial Action

Siptu have announced that retained firefighters across Ireland have voted "overwhelmingly" in favour of industrial action.

The union said that more than 80% of its 2,000 retained firefighter members cast a vote on the motion, with 95% of those voting in favour.

The unions members are involved in an ongoing dispute with the government over a policy which would reduce the number of firefighters sent on callouts.

Siptu said the industrial action will be carried out "in the event that the Department of Environment implements the 'Keeping Communities Safe' policy."
