Unions To Ballot Members Over Aviation Pension Dispute

In a dispute over pensions union members at the Dublin Airport Authority, Aer Lingus and Shannon Airport are to be balloted over possible industrial action.

The dispute is over a deficit of some €800 million in the companies' joint pension scheme, the Irish Aviation Superannuation Scheme.

The dispute over the deficit has remained unresolved for three years. The unions representing workers have raised concerns that their members will see their benefits significantly reduced.

The result of the ballot is expected by 7 February.
