Multi-Million Euro Car Fraud Uncovered

A multi-million euro car fraud has been uncovered by Gardai in Dublin.

It is understood an investigation was launched after a garda officer at Dublin Castle noticed that some tax discs on three-litre luxury cars had them documented as two-litres or less.

The subsequent investigation found that hundreds of luxury cars have been registered with lower engine capacities, and the resulting false documentation then used to pay less tax and insurance.

Gardaí have seized 18 BMWs, but it is understood that a number of other vehicles, including Range Rovers, Mercedes, Lexus and Jaguars, have also been identified.

Garda confirmed that one man has been arrested in connection with fraud and is due to appear in court in April.
