Garda Found Guilty Of Car Insurance Fraud

Garda officer Paul Fogarty has been found guilty of insurance fraud.

The 28-year-old, who is stationed in Dublin, falsely claimed that his car, which had been badly damaged in a crash, was in "perfect condition" when he reported it stolen.

He was attempting to claim €10,000 from the insurance company for the vehicle.

It is reported that the trial heard that Mr Fogarty arranged for a convicted car thief, who he had initially paid to repair his car, to steal the Toyota Celica so he could make the insurance claim.

Fogarty was unanimously found guilty of decieving the insurance company, but cleared of two additional charges of intimidating the car thief he had and his father.

Sentencing was adjourned until next month, and Fogarty was remanded on continuing bail.
