Gardaí Officers Arrested In Fraud Investigation

Two serving garda officers, suspected of fraudulent activity, have been arrested.

The two officers, both in their 30s and understood to be based in the Dublin area, were arrested this morning by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Activity.

The arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation into claims of fraudulent activity.

According to reports, the officers were arrested in connection with the use of bank cards at ATM cash machines.

It is understood that following the cash withdrawals, the bank would be contacted to say that the ATM had not dispensed any cash when the card was used.

Men Arrested Over €1m Cocaine And Heroin Find
Heroin and cocaine, with an estimated street value of €1m, has been recovered in a house search in Ballyfermot on Tuesday. Gardaí arrested two men, aged in their 30s, at the scene after officers uncovered 13kgs of cocaine worth an estimated €900,000 and 1.5kgs of heroin, with an estimated value of €225,000.

Officers Seize €20,000 At Knock Airport
Revenue officers seized €20,000 in cash from a couple who landed in Knock airport having returned from Lanzarote. The can was concealed in items of clothing and carry-on luggage. The cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and investigations are continuing.

Cocaine, Cash And Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Airport
Revenue Officers have seized cocaine, cash and cigarettes in a number of separate operations at Dublin Airport. On Sunday, 27 September, Revenue officers, with the assistance of detection dog Scooby, seized 5.7kgs of cocaine worth €400,000 from a 48-year-old Italian male who had arrived in on a flight from Dubai.

Customs Seize 120,000 Illegal Cigarettes
Cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €57,000 have been seized by customs officers at Cork Airport. Some 120,000 Marlboro cigarettes were discovered in 12 suitcases that had arrived on a flight from Wroclaw, Poland. Garda arrested two men, understood to be Polish nationals, in connection with the find.
