68-Year-Old 'Traumatised' After Being Stabbed By Intruder In His Home
A 68-year-old man has been stabbed and knocked unconscious after he disturbed an intruder in his home.
According to garda, the man returned home at about 16:15 on Wednesday and disturbed a burglar in his South Douglas Road home. The intruder hit the man on the head and stabbed him in the stomach before making off.
It is unclear how long the man was unconscious for but when he came around, he managed to call for an ambulance and was taken to Cork University Hospital.
His injuries are not tbelieved to be life threatening but garda said they have not been able to interview him as he has been "traumatised by the assault".
Garda are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 16:00 and 17:00 to contact them.

Vigil For Homeless Man Cancelled
A vigil for a homeless man who died while sleeping on the streets of Dublin last week has been cancelled following revelations that he was on the sex offenders' register. Campaigners Home Sweet Home cancelled the vigil for Stephen 'Jack' Watson which was to be held outside Apollo House on Thursday, 07 September.

A missing 52-year-old man from Cork has been found 'safe and well', garda have reported. John Ryan was last seen in the Shanakiel area of Cork City on Wednesday, 24 May. However, Mr Ryan has now been located and no further action is required.
