Passenger Numbers Rise For Aer Lingus

Passenger numbers for Aer Lingus increased by 5.3% in September, the airline has announced.

The total number of passengers it carried during the month was 1.041 million, 5.3% higher than the same month in 2013.

Long haul traffic for the airline rose by 27.8% to 138,000 passengers, up from 108,000 in September last year; while short haul traffic grew by 1.2%, from 775,000 in September 2013 to 784,000 last month.

Looking at the load factor, which is how many seats the airline fills in each flight, there was an increase of 1.6% to 83.3% when compared to the same month last year. However, its short haul load factor fell by 0.3% while its long haul load factor grew by 2.8%.

Aer Lingus' regional operations, which are operated by Stobart Air, increased its passenger intake by 12.3% to 119,000 in September 2014. This compares to 106,000 in September 2013.

Aer Lingus has reported a fall in passenger numbers for the month of November when compared to the same month in 2013. In total, the airline carried 702,000 passengers last month, which is down by 3.6% from November last year. The company said the figures were in line with a planned reduction in its short-haul capacity.

Passenger numbers on Aer Lingus flights have soared by 11% in the last month compared to the same period last year, according to the airline. Passenger numbers on short-haul flights were up 13%, but demand for long-haul flights was down 5.8%.

Passenger Numbers Increase For Aer Lingus
Aer Lingus has recorded a 7% increase in its passenger numbers for the month of August. Last month, the airline said it carried a more than 1,205 million passengers – an increase from 1,126 million passengers in August 2013. The number of long-haul passengers surged by more than 22% to 148,000 for the month, compared to 121,000 in August 2013.

Cannabis Haul Worth Almost €1m Discovered In Louth
Gardaí have arrested a woman in her 30's after a cannabis haul worth almost €1m was seized by officers in County Louth. A planned search took place in Drogheda on Wednesday 23 January which led to the arrest on suspicion of drug trafficking offences. She was detained at Drogheda Garda Station.

Letterkenny Drug And Gun Haul Probed
Gardaí have said that items recovered during two search operations in Letterkenny at the weekend are still being examined and analysed by technical experts in Dublin. Both illegal drugs and firearms were recovered in two separate incidents.
