Tesco To Remove Sweets From Checkouts

A major supermarket chain has announced that it will remove sweets from its checkouts.

Tesco has said that is making the change to help customers make heathier food choices, and will remove confectionery from the checkouts across all of its 146 Irish stores by the end of the year.

Healthy eating body, Safefood, has called on all supermarkets to make checkouts sweet-free.

Bomb Making Components Recovered In Dublin
Gardaí in Dublin requested the assistance of Army bomb experts after bomb making components were found. According to garda the incident began at about 12:30 on Thursday afternoon when components where uncovered in the Broadstone area in Phibsboro. The nearby Dublin Bus depot was closed while an army bomb disposal team examined the scene.

Protesters Stall Eviction Of Family In Co Cork
A group of around 100 protesters have stalled the eviction of a family of five in Co Cork. Around 100 members of Anti-Eviction Ireland Taskforce and Independent Resistance Ireland gathered outside the property in Ashdale, Dun an Oir, Kanturk on Tuesday morning tp prevent the sheriff from enforcing an eviction order.

Former Fianna Fail Councillor Gerard Killally and a former Offaly football manager Richard Connor have lost out in a High Court judgment, leaving them with a bill for €4.6million The judgment was made after National Irish Bank, who claimed the two men owed the amount to them, took an action.

Bomb Making Equipment Found In Tallaght
A tip off to garda on Monday has led to the discovery of pipe bomb making equipment in a carpark in Tallaght. Local gardai received a call shortly before 5pm on Monday evening saying there was a suspicious package left in the carpark of a public house on Greenhills Road, Tallaght.

Suspected Bomb-Making Factory Uncovered In Dublin
Gardaí have uncovered a suspected bomb-making factory in Dublin. It is understood that the owner of a storage facility on Blessington Road found the lock on the unit broken on Monday night at about 21:00. He discovered two men inside the facility "mixing chemicals".
