Man Arrested After Car Crashes Through Trinity Gates

A 68-year-old man has been arrested after crashing through the gates of Trinity College Dublin.

The car rammed the gates a number of times, which had already been closed by security staff, before breaking through and causing damage to the gates.

The car continued to drive up Dawson Street and also caused damage to other cars.

The man is being held at Store Street Garda Station.

Man, 49, Injured In Sligo Assault
A man has been injured during an assault, after a dispute in County Sligo last night. Gardai in Sligo said they are investigating the "serious assault", which occurred at a walkway connecting Stevens Street car park and Rockwood Parade last night. The injured man was found lying near the walkway and the Garavogue River at about 9pm.

Man Released Over Trinity College Car Incident
A man who was arrested in connection with an incident in which a car was driven through the campus of Trinity College Dublin and rammed into the front gates has been released without charge. The front gates of the university were rammed and several cars damaged when the 68-year-old drove through the campus yesterday.

Man Arrested Following Drugs Find
Drugs with an estimated street value of €170,000 have been seized by gardai during a raid on a property in west Dublin. Cocaine and cannabis was found during the raid at a house in Balgaddy. A gun and ammunition were also discovered. A 37-year=old has been arrested and is being detained at Ronanstown Garda Station.

Pole Accused Of 'Hanging' Partner
A Polish Man has appeared in court accused of trying to fake the suicide of his partner. The court heard how Mr Lech Szymczk, of North great Charles Street, Dublin 1, tried to hang his girlfriend to make it look like a suicide. The 49 year-old is also accused of badly beating the woman and throwing a knife at her head.

Man In Court Over Cork Murder
A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Brian McKee in Cork at the weekend. Mr McKee, a father-of-two from Ballinure Avenue in Mahon, was found unconscious at St Michael's Road in the early hours of Saturday morning. He had suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was taken to hospital but later died.
