Minister Shatter On 'Promote Ireland' Trip To Mexico
The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence has begun his first St. Patrick’s Day Promote Ireland Programme visit to Mexico, following earlier trips by President Michael D Higgins and Lord Mayor of Dublin, Oisín Quinn.
Promote trade, tourism, inward investment and Irish culture abroad, Minister Shatter’s programme includes a series of economic and cultural engagements and meetings with senior Government Ministers, trade and business leaders.
Minister Shatter will meet Mr Leonal Luna Estrada, the Head of Delegation for Álvaro Obregón (one of the 16 districts that make up Mexico City) to attend a commemorative event in remembrance of the Batallón de San Patricio at San Angel. The Batallón consisted of over 600 soldiers, the majority from Ireland, who fought to defend Mexico’s sovereignty during in the US-Mexican war of 1946-48. The Battalón are still revered as heroes today in Mexico.
He is also due to meet key figures from the Government of Mexico, including Mr Cuauhtémoc Cardenas, Head of International Relations, Mr Salomón Chertorivski, the Secretary for the Economy of Mexico City and Dr. José Antonio Meade, Secretary for Foreign Affairs to discuss economic and trade cooperation between Ireland and Mexico.

Glanbia In Advanced Talks Over $140m Expansion In New Mexico
Glanbia based in Kilkenny has announced it is in advanced discussions with its joint venture partners for a $140 million expansion of their cheese and whey production plant in Clovis, New Mexico. The expansion, which is expected to be completed in two years, will increase milk processing capacity by almost 30% and create an additional 50 jobs.

Dublin Ranked 10th Most Congested City In The World
A new survey has revealed that Dublin is the 6th most congested city in Europe, and 10th in the world. The fourth annual global traffic report, produced by Sat Nav maker TomTom, ranked the city in the world's top ten most congested, along with Mexico City, Istanbul and Rio de Janeiro.

€47.7m Unlocked For Disadvantaged Communities
€47.7m is being allocated to the Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP) in 2014. Community and Local Government Minister Phil Hogan has announced the funding, which is expected to enable 44,000 people to engage in one-to-one interventions to assist in returning to employment and sustain 650 jobs in Local Development Companies.
