Dublin Ranked 10th Most Congested City In The World

A new survey has revealed that Dublin is the 6th most congested city in Europe, and 10th in the world.

The fourth annual global traffic report, produced by Sat Nav maker TomTom, ranked the city in the world's top ten most congested, along with Mexico City, Istanbul and Rio de Janeiro.

The survey found that so-called shortcuts, taken by drivers, actually increased travel time by around 50%, with commuters spending an average of eight days a year stuck in traffic.

Within Europe, Dublin ranked 6th most congested, with journey times on average 35% longer than in free-flowing traffic. And in rush hour, that figure increased to 74%.

The world's top 10 most congested cities are:

1. Moscow – 74%

2. Istanbul – 62%

3. Rio de Janeiro – 55%

4. Mexico City – 54%

5. São Paulo – 46%

6. Palermo – 39%

7. Warsaw – 39%

8. Rome – 37%

9. Los Angeles – 36%

10. Dublin: 35%
