UPC Customers To Receive RTÉ Junior

Senator Lorraine Higgins today has confirmed that RTÉ have informed her that the thousands of UPC customers will have the benefit of the RTÉ Junior channel from this week.

She said: "A number of people raised with me the fact RTÉ Junior was only available on fibre power UPC, SKY and Saorview, and not to the thousands of customers on UPC who use the MMDS system. Saorview requires a dish in rural areas and is costly to set up. In comparison UPC is a low cost system but is available through either cable or signal (MMDS). Those on MMDS could not get the RTÉ Jr channel which is meant to be on channel 600 and that has posed a big problem to those families with young children.

"However, I am delighted that RTÉ have confirmed to me that at some point between now and the 13th of December those UPC customer with MMDS will have access to RTÉ Junior and that Analogue customers will have access in the first few months of next year.

"At a time when people are finding it difficult to make ends meet, and with Christmas fast approaching, I am delighted that the national broadcaster has rectified this problem and saved families with young children from incurring more expense."
