Former Politician Arrested Over Alleged Murder Conspiracy

A former Co Cork politician has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

It is understood garda detectives were acting on information when they arrested the as-yet-unidentified man near Cork city on Friday morning.

He is being held and questioned at a garda station in Cork and can be detained for up to a week.

The man is being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to murder three people, RTÉ News have reported.

Customs Seize 120,000 Illegal Cigarettes
Cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €57,000 have been seized by customs officers at Cork Airport. Some 120,000 Marlboro cigarettes were discovered in 12 suitcases that had arrived on a flight from Wroclaw, Poland. Garda arrested two men, understood to be Polish nationals, in connection with the find.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Murder Following Fire Death
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of a woman in a house fire in Co Cork Sunday morning. Firefighters fund the 36-year-old mother of three following a fire at her home in Passage West. A man in his 30s was later arrested on Sunday evening in connection with the death. He was taken to Togher Garda station for questioning.

A man arrested minutes after Kelly’s murder outside his home in Killester, north Dublin, on Tuesday was still being questioned on Wednesday night.
