Dublin's Mystery Woman Returns To Australia
Samantha Azzopardi, the 25-year-old found in a distressed state in Dublin last month is returning to her home in Australia.
It is understood Ms Azzopardi requested to return home.
Gardaí have said they are facilitating her request and officers will accompany her. It is understood she will be met by members of her family in Australia.
Ms Azzopardi, who has been described as "very vulnerable" has been in the care of Ireland's Health Service Executive since 10 October when she was found on Dublin's O'Connell Street.
Initially, the authorities believed she was a teenage girl who was a possible victim of trafficking. Attempts to identify the woman were unsuccessful and when gardaí were granted permission to release an image earlier this week, she was identified as an Australian citizen who had been staying with relatives in Co Tipperary.
On Thursday, the High Court heard a psychiatrist had carried out a very comprehensive assessment on Ms Azzopardi. He concluded that she was not suffering from a mental disorder under the Mental Health Act, meaning no order was required from the court under that act. However, he added that she was suffering from a mental condition that makes her "very vulnerable".
