Former Garda Reserve Officer Accused Of Benefit Fraud

A former Gardaí Reserve officer has been charged with making a false claim for Jobseeker's Allowance.

39-year-old Charles Eyombo, with an address at The Courtyard, Bru Na Gruadan in Castletroy, Limerick, is accused of falsely claiming welfare payments by declaring to the Department of Social Protection in Limerick city on 6 January last, that his circumstances had not changed.

According to reports, the investigation into the accusations goes back to 2009 and involves up to €40,000.

The case was adjourned until 19 February for further directions from the DPP.

Weekend Road Collisions Claim Two
Gardaí in Shannon are investigating a single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred around 5am on Saturday morning. The 36-year-old female driver and sole occupant of a car was pronounced dead at scene when her car left the road and collided with a tree on the northbound carriageway of the N18 at Hurler's Cross, between exits 6 and 7.

Human remains found in Galway Bay on 29 November have been confirmed as those of missing Limerick woman, Maria Hennigar. The 35-year-old was reported missing on 22 November, although she had not been seen earlier that month.

Investigation Launched Following Bone Discovery In Co Clare
An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a bone in Co Clare. A bone was found on Thursday, 22 September, on the Shannon riverbank at Doonass, Clonlara, on the Clare-Limerick border. Gardaí were called to the scene and are understood to have examined and photographed the scene before the bone was removed.

Man Dies In Limerick Collision
A man has died in a crash in Co Limerick. The car veered off the road and hit a ditch at Dromsallagh at around 4.15am on Sunday, 05 June. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man is currently being treated for his injuries at the University Hospital Limerick. The road has been re-opened.

Searches Launched Across Limerick City
Up to 20 searches are being carried out across Limerick City this morning, 26 April, as part of an operation targeting criminal activity. Gardaí launched the operation in the early hours of Tuesday morning and the operation is ongoing. One man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
