Search Resumes For Missing Fisherman

A search is to resume this morning for a fisherman who was swept into the sea in Co Clare last night (Sunday).

According to reports, the man had been fishing with friends off the rocks at Ballyreen, near Fanore, in the county around 5.30pm.

He was angling from the rocks when he was hit by a wave. One of his friend's raised the alarm as another jumped into the sea to try and save the man, but he was unsuccessful in his attempts.

He was subsequently treated at the scene for the effects of the cold.

It is understood the missing man is 42 years old and is a Latvian national.

The operation on Sunday involved the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard, a Shannon-based rescue helicopter and gardaí.

A search is due to resume from early this morning.

Search Operation Resumes For Man Feared To Have Fallen Into The Sea
A search and rescue operation has resumed for a 19-year-old man, feared to have fallen into the sea in Co Clare. The operation was launched on Monday when a report was received that the man was missing at about 11am. It is understood he has not been seen since Sunday night.

Missing Co Mayo Man Found 'Safe And Well'
Missing Co Mayo man, David Duffy, has been found safe and well, garda have reported. Garda had issued an appeal for help in tracing 36-year-old Mr Duffy, who had not been seen since Sunday. Garda have thanked the public for their help and said that no further action is needed.

Search For Missing Man Resumes
The search for a man missing following a drowning incident in west Cork has resumed. Two people's bodies were recovered during the search close to the Beacon at Baltimore Harbour on Tuesday evening. The victims have been named as Barry Ryan and Niamh O'Connor.

Search Resumes On Mweelrea Mountain
A search has resumed on Mweelrea Mountain, Co Mayo, for a missing hillwalker. The walker, a male understood to be aged in his 30s, has not been seen since Tuesday night. The man's wife reported him missing. A search was launched on Wednesday involving the Coast Guard and Mayo Mountain Rescue but was ended when at nightfall.

Missing Cork Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A missing 52-year-old man from Cork has been found 'safe and well', garda have reported. John Ryan was last seen in the Shanakiel area of Cork City on Wednesday, 24 May. However, Mr Ryan has now been located and no further action is required.
