No Service If Dublin Bus Strike Goes Ahead

Following the notice of strike action issued by two unions, Dublin Bus has said that it would be unable to provide a service from this Sunday should they go ahead.

Dublin Bus announced this week that it was to press ahead with cost saving measures, after a year of negotiating with unions had not resulted in any progress. The Cost Saving Plan is due to begin on Sunday.

Upon the announcement both SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) issued the company with strike notices.

Dublin Bus spokesperson Clíodhna Ní Fhátharta told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that the company would not be able to put a contingency plan in place. She told the programme: "The best contingency plan at the moment is that people would come into work, and we would urge them to reconsider that and not disrupt our customers."

The company's savings plan has the support of the Labour Court but it has been rejected by unions.
