Dublin Bus Strike Enters Third Day

As people in Dublin return to work following yesterday's bank holiday, the Dublin Bus strike enters its third day.

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of passengers have been effected by the strike today.

Dublin Bus drivers and other staff launched industrial action on Sunday in a dispute of the company's plan to press ahead with cost cutting plan, in an effort to save €11.7 million.

It followed a year of negotiations between management and unions, which ultimately failed to reach a solution.

In June the Labour Court advised Dublin Bus to carry out its cost cutting plans, which had previously been rejected by union members.

Calls are still being made for Dublin Bus and the unions to begin discussions in an effort to halt the current industrial action.
