Man Sentenced Over Sex With Minor

A 25-year-old man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for having sex with a 13-year-old girl he befriended online.

Claiming to be 19, Graham Doyle befriended the teenager through the Bebo website and had sex with her a number of times at his family home.

It is understood that Doyle later admitted to gardai he knew the girl was aged 13 but claimed she had consented to sex.

Doyle of Ronan’s Way, Clondalkin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two charges of defilement of a child at his home on April 29th, 2011.

The case had previously been adjourned on two occasions. Judge Mary Ellen Ring had adjourned sentencing in October last year to determine what kind of treatment would be available for Doyle on his release from prison.

And a second adjournment was granted after a report from the Probation Service indicated that they needed a further eight weeks to assess Doyle.

Judge Ring sentenced Doyle to three and a half years, backdated the sentence to the date of his plea in July 2012 and suspended the final 18 months of the term.
