Trial Of Nicola Furlong Opens

The man accused of murdering Irish exchange student, Nicola Furlong, has said he "had no intent, motive or reason to hurt, harm or kill" her.

Richard Hinds, 20, denied the murder on the first day of the trial in Tokyo today.

Ms Furlong was found dead in the Keio Plaza hotel on 24th May last year.

Hinds, an American musician, is accused of strangling Ms Furlong.

Nicola's parents and her sister Andrea travelled to Japan for the trial.

The case will run for two weeks.

The verdict will be delivered on 19th March.

Mother From Cork Charged With Murdering Son
A mother from charged with killing her eight-year-old son, Anthony, has been sent forward for trial. Diana Ward, 42, of Harrison Place, is accused of murdering Anthony at their family hone on 3rd September 2012. A post mortem confirmed Anthony died from asphyxiation.

McAreavey Trial Put On Hold Today
The trial of two men accused of murdering a Co Tyrone newlywed has been put on hold while lawyers attempted to resolve an outstanding legal issue. Judge Mr Justice Prithviraj Fecknah thanked jurors at the Mauritius murder trial surrounding Michaela McAreavey's death for their patience.
