Naas GP To Face Fitness To Practice Inquiry

A Naas GP is to face allegations of professional misconduct and poor professional performance at a Medical Council fitness to practise inquiry.

Dr Aoife Kavanagh is facing the allegations in connection to her work at K Doc, an out-of-hours emergency GP service covering Kildare.

A total of five charges had been made against Dr Kavanagh but the Committee has agreed to strike out three allegations of professional misconduct.

It followed an application by Charles Meenan, SC for Dr Kavanagh, that five allegations could not succeed on the basis of the findings of the expert report prepared for the Medical Council, which said the matters did not amount to professional misconduct.

The committee will to proceed to hear the evidence in relation to the two other allegations.

It is understood the allegations against Dr Kavanagh were made by K Doc and cover years 2005-2010.

No allegations were made by patients.
