Taxi Seized In Rape Investigation

A taxi has been seized by gardaí following allegations made by a female student that the driver raped her in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to gardaí a 20-year-old woman has claimed that she was raped by her taxi driver as she tried to make her way home at around 02:00 on Tuesday.

It is understood that the woman had got into the taxi outside a Dublin city centre nightclub to go home. She claims that the driver drove her to Phoenix Park and raped her, before then leaving her outside a security gate at Dublin City University.

The taxi driver it understood to have been traced and subsequently interviewed by gardaí but has been arrested.

According to gardaí the taxi admits that he had consensual sex with the woman, even swapping phone numbers with her afterwards.

Gardai are awaiting the outcome of the forensic tests on the vehicle and the medical examination of the student.

Renewed Appeal Over Murder Of Taxi Driver
Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information on the murder of taxi driver Martin Mulligan. Mr Mulligan (53) was stabbed to death on 28 September following an altercation in Dundalk in Co Louth. It is believed the altercation began over an unpaid taxi fare.
